Law Enforcement Protective Measures for CBRNE Incidents

LEPM PER-264 8 Contact Hours
Target Audience/Disciplines

Law Enforcement

Overview

Through the one-day Law Enforcement Protective Measures for CBRNE Incidents (LEPM) course, law enforcement responders receive instruction in the current terrorist and extremist threat; apply community-based policing principles to identify and prevent terrorism and extremism; and develop knowledge in the critical law enforcement skills required to respond to and operate safely in a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosive (CBRNE) incident environment. The course culminates in a series of hands-on activities that allow responders to practice all of the learned skills (employing weapons, retaining weapons, and apprehending suspects while wearing personal protective equipment [PPE]; preserving hazardous evidence; moving and communicating tactically while wearing PPE; and conducting sampling of hazardous materials) in a realistic context.

Below are some, but not all, of the critical skill sets learned during this training program:

  • Don and doff PPE Level C.
  • Assume initial command of a CBRNE incident.
  • Handle a weapon and perform weapon-retention techniques.
  • Preserve hazardous evidence.
  • Process through technical decontamination.
