Hazardous Materials Basic Responder for Mass Casualty Incidents

The target audience for this course is awareness-level personnel with an implied or stated requirement to support response operations during a hazardous materials mass casualty incident.

Overview

This course provides instruction and practical experience in the skills required to safely support mass casualty incident operations during a hazardous materials mass casualty incident. Course content includes knowledge and practical experience in the donning, operating in, and doffing of personal protective equipment; the conduct of emergency and tiered patient decontamination; the performance of patient triage and lifesaving interventions; and techniques for patient movement and basic rescue. The course culminates in the conduct of a simulated mass casualty incident operation requiring the performance of all learned tasks in a toxic agent environment.

  • Identify the procedures for conducting hazardous materials mass casualty incident operations
  • Don and doff personal protective equipment level C
  • Perform decontamination procedures
  • Perform triage and lifesaving interventions
  • Perform basic rescue procedures
