Healthcare Coalition Response Leadership Course

Target Audience/Disciplines

Healthcare Leaders, Public Health Leaders, Emergency Medical Leaders, and Emergency Management and Public Officials serving in a leadership role for an existing or developing healthcare coalition.

Overview

The Healthcare Coalition Response Leadership Course (HCRL) is based on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Healthcare System and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Public Health Preparedness Capabilities, as well as best-practice procedures for healthcare-coalition building, preparedness, response, and recovery. The three-day course provides instruction and facilitated discussion in best practices and lessons learned in establishing an effective healthcare-coalition framework and conducting healthcare-coalition planning, as well as and achieving preparedness. The course provides instruction on the development of indicators, triggers, and tactics for proactive coalition planning; and approaches techniques, and instruction on the considerations for healthcare coalition response and recovery leadership. The course also provides extensive practical experience in healthcare coalition leadership team response through a series of progressive exercises designed to emulate realistic community and regional public health and medical emergencies.

Below are some, but not all, of the critical skill sets learned during this training program:

  • Discuss the best practice methods and means for establishing a healthcare coalition framework.
  • Discuss the best practice methods and means for preparing to respond as a healthcare coalition.
  • Develop indicators, triggers, and tactics for a proactive healthcare response.
  • Manage a response to a public health and/or medical emergency as a leadership team member for a healthcare coalition.

Prerequisites and Requirements

To be eligible for the course, the student must successfully complete the following course:

  • To be eligible for this course, the student must serve in a leadership role for an existing or developing healthcare coalition.

Exceptions to the above prerequisites may be granted on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the CDP Registrar.

Continuing Education Credits

The Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) is an Accredited Provider (AP) of Continuing Education Units (CEU) and is authorized to award the following CEUs for successful completion of this activity:

ABN (Alabama Board of Nursing) - 24 CEUs

ACCME (Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education) in Joint Providership agreement with the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UASOM) - 24 CEUs

ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians) - 23.5 CEUs

ENA (Emergency Nurses Association in association with the American Nurses Credentialing Center ANCC) - 24 CEUs

IACET (International Association of Continuing Education and Training) – 2.4 CEUs
