Intermodal Markings

Intermodal markings are international markings used primarily on intermodal containers based on a code and the UN Identification Numbering System that DOT accepts. The hazard identification numbers are found in the top half of an orange panel. This 2-3 digit numerical code conveys hazard information that can be found in the ERG. The lower half of the orange panel will show the 4 digit UN Identification Number.
