| The following information is required by law on the shipping papers, if applicable: - UN or NA Identification Number
- Technical Name. Materials described on a shipping paper by one of the proper shipping names, or UN description identified by the letter G in column one of the Hazardous Materials Table in 9 C.F.R. This will always be included for a Not Otherwise Specified (N.O.S.) entry on a shipping paper.
- Subsidiary Hazards. Materials identified by hazardous materials label codes that indicates a primary hazard of a flammable liquid and a subsidiary risk of a toxic material and corrosive substance. If the item has a subsidiary hazard it must be accounted for on the paperwork.
- Packing Group. The packaging column provides the packaging group number.
- Number and Type of Packages. The number of packages being shipped is included in this entry on the shipping paper.
- Total Quantity. Total number of packages per type of material or good being shipped under the description.
- Weight. Total net and gross weight of the shipment for the entry marked on the shipping paper by shipping description.
- Special Permit. A document that is issued by the associate administrators or designees permitting a person to perform a function that is not otherwise permitted under subchapter A or C of 49 U.S.C. Part 5101.
- Marine Pollutant. Any material, which when in a solution or mixture that impacts marine environments based on percentage weight.
- Poison-inhalation Hazard. This is a marking on the shipping paper that indicates that the material is hazardous if introduced into the respiratory system and may cause death. This applies to Division 2.3 and some Division 6.1 hazards.
- Organic Peroxides. The description on a shipping paper for a Division 4.1 (self-reactive) material or a Division 5.2 (organic peroxide) material must include the following additional information, as appropriate.
- If notification or competent authority approval is required, the shipping paper must contain a statement of approval of the classification and conditions of transport.
- For Division 4.1 (self-reactive) and Division 5.2 (organic peroxide) materials that require temperature control during transport. The control and emergency temperature must be included on the shipping paper.
- Waste. Waste materials, which can become potentially dangerous to human health or the environment are required to have the words waste marked before their shipping description on all paperwork.
- Radioactive Materials. Information such as the type of materials being shipped, e.g., californium, strontium, uranium.
- Emergency Contact. This is a telephone number that is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the shipper as long as the hazardous material is in transit. It is for assistance when something happens to the shipment, such as spills, cleanup needs, and other required reporting.
