Lesson 9: Emergency Response Guidebook

Recognizing different shapes of containers, placards, labels, and color systems is essential when a hazardous materials incident occurs. What you have already learned in this course can be applied to using the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) and ensuring that proper precautions and actions are taken during the initial response to an incident.

In this lesson you will:

  • Determine the proper guide number and product proper shipping name (PSN) with only a United Nations Identification Number (UN ID)
  • Determine the proper guide number and UN ID number using the blue pages of the ERG
  • Determine the correct guide number, the protective actions needed, and hazards associated with a chemical as listed in the orange pages of the ERG
  • Determine when the green pages are required and the correct isolation and standoff distances required by the green pages of the ERG
