Course Overview

The Hazardous Materials Awareness Course provides students from all backgrounds with practical knowledge in essential, awareness-level hazardous materials emergency response procedures as defined by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 472: Standards for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents and NFPA 1072: Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications.

The Hazardous Materials Awareness  Course provides students with training to proficiency in identifying hazardous materials; utilizing the U.S. Department of Transportation Emergency Response Guidebook to identify hazardous materials risks and protective actions, utilizing hazard communication documents to identify hazardous materials risks and protective actions, and determining awareness-level personnel and public protective actions consistent with the NFPA-472 and NFPA-1072 Chapter 4 competencies.
