Class 7: Radioactive Material

Radioactive material is any material containing radionuclides where both the activity concentration and the total activity in the consignment exceed specified values.

Radioactive materials can also be defined as materials capable of the spontaneous release of ionizing energy capable of causing harm by removal of electrons from an atom (ionizing radiation).

Examples include cobalt, uranium hexafluoride, and uranium oxide (i.e., yellow cake uranium).
