Highway
The majority of hazardous materials are transported by highway in any number of different vehicles, including intermodal tanks, compressed gas tube trailers, high- and low-pressure tanks, and specialized tanks. Almost every kind of dangerous good that is specified by any of the nine hazard classes is being shipped throughout the country every day, many times near areas with large populations such as cities. DOT regulations that govern the transport of dangerous goods by highway are found in 49 C.F.R. ยง 171-177.
