General Service Tank Cars (Low-Pressure Tank Cars)
General service cars are low-pressure cars used to transport a variety of hazardous materials and non-hazardous materials. They typically have exposed top valves and fittings, but in some cases the valves maybe inside a protective covering. They may also be allowed to have bottom valves. They can have up to a maximum pressure rating of 100 psi, but usually ship liquids at pressures less than 25 psi. The most common type of general service car is a DOT 111.
