Acute Radiation Sickness

The effects of acute radiation doses greater than approximately 0.7 Gy (70 rads) are collectively known as acute radiation sickness.

Acute radiation sickness symptoms include the following:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • High fever
  • Hair loss (epilation)
  • Burns
  • Changes in blood cells
  • Vascular changes (blood vessels)
  • Gastrointestinal system effects
