Unit Review Questions

This concludes the Nuclear Power Plant Accidents unit.

This unit described the hazards and protective measures associated with a nuclear power plant accident. The defense-in-depth approach used in designing U.S. nuclear plants ensures that most accidents will not result in the release of radioactive materials. Even in the accident at Three Mile Island, the vast majority of the radioactive materials were contained. The accident at Chernobyl released much larger quantities of radioactive materials than were released during the Three Mile Island accident.
