Birmingham, Jefferson County, AL officials train at Center for Domestic Preparedness

About 40 officials from Birmingham and Jefferson County, AL, participated in Incident Command training in late February at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness.

The officials included members of the City of Birmingham administrative team, and emergency managers, law enforcement officers and healthcare specialists from Birmingham, and the surrounding towns of Columbiana, Hoover, Pelham and Trussville.  Incident command training includes information about preparedness planning as well as how to manage emergency response resources during a crisis.

The training was well-timed.

While Birmingham and Jefferson County host numerous large events annually, in July of 2021 they will host the next World Games, which are expected to bring as many as 3,600 athletes and tens of thousands spectators to the area for 10 days.

The World Games are held every four years and feature a range of sports including Gymnastics, Karate, Handball, Lacrosse, Softball, Archery, Bowling, Powerlifting, and Squash.
