CDP and partners prepare for Law Enforcement Theme Week

The Center for Domestic Preparedness is preparing for its upcoming Law Enforcement Theme Week, September 20-26, at the center’s Anniston, Alabama, campus.

The CDP and its partners will deliver several active assailant courses during the week.

Active Shooter Incident Management

During active shooter events, agencies face life-threatening coordination failures, including siloed command, delayed medical response or communication breakdowns, which could cost lives. ASIM builds on active assailant training to stop the shooter and manage the entire scene to save injured people quickly. In this course, law enforcement, fire, EMS and dispatch train side-by-side in the same room. Participants rotate through key leadership roles in realistic scenarios. These exercises start with basic events and get progressively harder.

Surveillance Detection

This three-day course provides public safety and security professional fundamental concepts and skills to recognize hostile surveillance at facilities and planned and unplanned events and respond appropriately. It is taught by the DHS Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency/Office for Bombing Prevention. During Law Enforcement Theme Week, the course is paired with the Community Threat Group Identification, Assessment & Information Reporting for Rural Law Enforcement Officers course.

Law Enforcement Active Shooter Emergency Response

This course offering addresses technical aspects of planning and implementing a rapid law enforcement deployment to an active shooter incident through classroom presentations, hands-on performance-based field training, and scenario-based practical exercises.​ It is instructed by Louisiana State University's National Center for Biomedical Research and Training/Academy of Counter-Terrorist Education and hosted on the Center for Domestic Preparedness's campus. It is paired with the Introduction to Hostile Surveillance course.

The training week will culminate in a hands-on exercise involving all students applying their newly acquired skills to resolve simulated scenarios involving protests, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosive incidents and terrorist threats in realistic training environments.

CDP training is completely funded for state, local, tribal and territorial emergency responders to include roundtrip airfare, meals, lodging, tuition and any equipment required during training.
