CDP construction to give students, staff better facilities
To students arriving for training, FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) may appear to be a large construction zone, with projects ongoing in most areas of campus.
Though the work has caused some minor deviations, it’s had minimal impact on students and training.
Responders training at the Noble Training Facility will notice work being performed on the building as well as the parking lot. The entire parking lot is being repaved using Thin Concrete Pavement (TCP) – a fiber-reinforced, low-maintenance concrete which doesn’t retain as much heat as asphalt. Additionally, work continues on replacing brick around the building.
The CDP’s largest renovation project has begun at the Advanced Responder Training Complex. When the project is complete in late 2024, the main building at the complex will serve as a reception area for responders who train at the CDP as well as offices for CDP personnel.
In the Responder Lodging Complex, two projects are still in process, while one was recently completed. A paving project to complete a driving loop at the complex was recently finished using TCP. Projects still in the works include the replacement of the cafeteria roof and renovations of one of the dorms. The roof replacement should be completed soon and the dorm renovation is set to be finished later this year or in early 2024.
