CDP continues support to Birmingham and 2022 World Games

The Center for Domestic Preparedness continues to provide critical training to responders in Birmingham, Alabama, as the city prepares to host the 2022 World Games.

This month the CDP will deliver eight virtual instructor-led and four non-resident course offerings to responders on several hazardous materials, healthcare and law enforcement topics. That training will be followed by delivery of a virtual integrated capstone exercise in early March, which will test various leaders’ actions to potential threats associated with the games.

The efforts will build on earlier games-related training the CDP provided to the city.

Those efforts saw Birmingham-area responders tally more than 410 completions of 10 non-resident courses and more than 200 completions of assorted web-based courses in the last two years. It also saw more than 40 Birmingham-area officials complete Incident Command training on the CDP campus in early 2020.

The World Games are expected to bring approximately 3,600 athletes and tens of thousands of spectators to the area for 10 days in July.

They’re held every four years and feature a range of sports, including gymnastics, karate, handball, lacrosse, softball, archery, bowling, powerlifting and squash.
