CDP continues to support Birmingham (AL), World Games 2021

The Center for Domestic Preparedness continues to assist Birmingham, Ala., as it prepares to host the World Games in 2021.

CDP training specialists had a follow-up meeting Thursday with Birmingham officials to continue discussions on how the Center can help the city ensure its first responders and medical teams are prepared for the event.

While the details still need to be flushed out, the specialists said following the meeting that CDP training for the event will likely span a number of areas, including law enforcement, healthcare, hazardous materials, and emergency management, and be delivered both on the CDP campus in nearby Anniston, and by mobile teams in and around Birmingham.

Birmingham announced in early 2018 that it expects 3,600 athletes from more than 100 countries to descend upon the city and compete in the games from July 15-25, 2021.

The event is conducted every four years by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee, and features a range of sports, from Archery, Gymnastics, Handball, and Sumo Wrestling to Billiards, Lacrosse, Karate, and Squash.

The 2017 edition of the World Games took place in Wroclaw, Poland.
