CDP environmental health course modules under review
Curriculum developers at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness and a group of disaster response subject matter experts are currently reviewing modules of the center’s popular Environmental Health Training in Emergency Response Operations (EHTER Ops) course.
The subject matter experts include environmental health specialists with extensive experience working a variety of natural and manmade disasters, as well as responders from state, local, tribal and territorial organizations who have been involved in the COVID-19 response.
The modules are those focused on water assessment and purification, food safety (to include mass feeding), and safe shelter options, and are those most often requested by communities following disasters.
The working group will ensure the modules contain the most up-to-date information for each subject area, as well as information on how to perform those tasks in COVID-19 and other potentially hazardous environments.
The group hopes to wrap up its work sometime in early-to mid-September, which is traditionally the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season and the wildfire season in the western U.S., and when communities routinely request the training.
