CDP gets feedback on microlearning courses

FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness compiled results this week from an online survey it conducted, asking responders what topics they most want to see in upcoming microlearning videos.

The center’s microlearning videos are geared at those who are time-constrained, or unable to devote time to a full class, and can be accessed electronically at the viewer’s convenience.

The two topics receiving the largest number of votes in the survey, which focused on hazardous materials identification and mitigation topics, were Identification of Hazardous Materials Using the Seven Clues and Establishing initial protective actions for a HAZMAT incident (Using the DOT Emergency Response Guidebook).

The remaining choices were Plugging a HAZMAT Release in a Drum, Patching a HAZMAT Release in a Drum, and Resolving Chime and Bung Leaks for a HAZMAT Drum.

Responders also submitted their own topics for consideration. Among these were pandemic planning, command functions at hazardous materials calls and the basics of self-contained breathing apparatus use.

The CDP plans to continue to request assistance from responders with similar surveys in the future.
