CDP helping responders prepare for Democratic, Republican Conventions

The Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) provided training to 19 law enforcement officers from Chicago last week as part of preparations for the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

The Field Force Operations (FFO) Course was the first of several training opportunities the CDP will provide to enhance the capabilities of responders in the cities hosting the 2024 Democratic and Republican national conventions. The CDP is scheduled to provide training in September to responders from Milwaukee, the site of the 2024 Republican National Convention. In October, it is scheduled to train additional responders from Chicago.

The three-day FFO teaches law enforcement and security officers about protest types, legal considerations, responsibilities of mobile field force teams, and crowd-control methods. The course includes a series of hands-on activities, allowing responders to practice learned skills in a realistic context.

The CDP plays an important role in preparing state, local and tribal responders to prepare for and respond to manmade events or major incidents, including mass casualty events. To learn more about the Center for Domestic Preparedness, visit http://cdp.dhs.gov.
