CDP holds blood drive
Employees of the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) recently answered the call to help during a blood supply crisis. The American Red Cross recently declared the second national blood crisis in its history, with a need for all blood types in response to a four-year summer low.
In response, nearly 30 CDP employees donated 27 units of blood. Among the donors were 11 who gave two units of red blood cells in one session, known as a Power Red donation. This specialized procedure enables plasma and platelets to be returned to the donor, ensuring their safety, while maximizing the donation impact.
Of those who donated, 73% gave blood for the first time. Blood drive organizers Tiffany Bush and Amy Strautman hope their experience will lead to regular donations.
The CDP plans to schedule blood drives on a biannual basis going forward – in the spring and fall.
