CDP holds POPS-B focus group

A working group of law enforcement experts recently met at the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) to review and recommend updates for the center’s Public Order Public Safety (POPS): Basic course.

These participants represented agencies from across the nation and provided a broad range of operational perspectives and experiences.

Group members reviewed the current curriculum to determine topics to be incorporated into the CDP’s POPS: Intermediate and POPS: Leader courses, enabling a logical progression without unnecessary overlap between the courses.

According to the CDP’s Training and Education staff, the focus group fostered productive collaboration, resulting in valuable recommendations to improve course sequencing, update instructional content and enhance the effectiveness of the POPS training program for responders nationwide.

The CDP conducts focus groups every few years for each of its programs of study. These groups help the center confirm the continued accuracy of course curricula and ensure courses align with the training needs of first responders.

The POPS-B course trains law enforcement responders on protest types and actions, legal considerations, responsibilities of public order units, and crowd control methods. The course culminates in hands-on activities, allowing students to practice learned skills in a realistic context.
