CDP hosts annual Tribal Nations Training Week
It’s Tribal Nations Training Week at FEMA’s Center for Preparedness.
The week kicked off Sunday with an opening ceremony and welcome feast at the center’s Noble Training Facility.
The 76 responders in attendance are now involved in four different classes, covering emergency operations center processes, healthcare leadership, incident command and active shooter response.
The week also features two evening lectures – one on the establishment of a tribal apprenticeship program and one on healthcare incident command.
The goal of Tribal Nations Training Week is to enhance the response capabilities of tribal nations responders, with training tailored to their specific needs.
“Your job is so tough, especially in these times,” said Tony Russell, CDP superintendent, during Sunday’s opening ceremony.
Russell added the week’s activities will “better prepare” the responders “to deal with the adversities” they may face, and he encouraged them to use this time as an opportunity to build a network of contacts.
The CDP conducted the first Tribal Nations Training Week in 2016. Since then, it has presented nearly 4,000 course completion certificates to tribal nation responders.
