CDP hosts national Tribal Nations working group

This week, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) convened a Tribal Nations working group on the campus of the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) in Anniston, Alabama.

The group, comprised of representatives from several tribal nations across the country and the agency, has been working to review FEMA guidance and policy that impacts tribal nations.

“I am excited to share that FEMA will soon issue a letter asking tribal leaders to consult on a significant FEMA policy that impacts Tribal Nations and Indian Country,” said Kelbie Kennedy, a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and FEMA’s first National Tribal Affairs Advocate.

Kennedy said the working group was invited by the CDP to meet on its campus and was complimentary of both its facilities and staff.

“This has been an ideal location, and CDP staff went above and beyond to ensure that Tribal Nations could attend the meeting in person,” she said.
