CDP hosts site visit by Texas medical executives

The Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) hosted executives from the Memorial Hermann Hospital System for a site visit in mid-September.

As part of the visit, the group discussed expanding training opportunities for the system’s healthcare responders.

According to the CDP’s Training and Education Department, the hospital system, which operates 14 hospitals in southeast Texas, is primarily interested in the center’s Hospital Emergency Response Training (HERT) and Healthcare for Leaders (HCL) courses.

HERT is a three-day offering which teaches responders how to properly use personal protective equipment as well as triage and decontaminate both ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients.

The four-day HCL course trains healthcare leaders how to prepare their teams for, and guide them through, mass casualty events.

Training at the CDP is provided free of charge by FEMA to state, local, tribal and territorial emergency responders, including round-trip transportation, meals and lodging. For additional information about courses offered at the CDP, visit https://cdp.dhs.gov/training/resident.
