CDP hosts Tribal Nations Training Week working group

A working group gathered at the Center of Domestic Preparedness (CDP) May 27-31 to begin outlining the center’s next Tribal Nations Training Week.

The annual event is the largest training event of its type in the Department of Homeland Security and is typically attended by about 300 tribal leaders, emergency managers and responders.

The working group, comprised of representatives from multiple tribal nations; the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NPDC), which includes the CDP; and the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC), discussed training gaps in Indian Country and then identified courses in the NDPC and RDPC catalogs which could help close those gaps.

As in previous years, the 2025 event will offer training in a variety of areas, including emergency management, hazardous materials, and healthcare. The week of training will also include speakers who will address a wide range of topics of interest to tribal nations.

Additionally, the week will again include a listening session with various senior FEMA representatives, who want to hear from those in Indian Country about how the agency can better serve them.

More details about the week will be provided once the group’s recommendations and the dates of the training are firmed up.
