CDP incorporating climate information into training

FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) will soon include information in select courses on how members of law enforcement can be impacted by climate and weather.

The information, focused on the increase in crime and other security concerns often associated with large-scale weather events, will be phased into the curriculum of eight of the CDP’s law enforcement courses – those primarily centered on public order policing.

It will cover such things as changes in types and rates of crime, demands for increased security, enforcing legislation regarding climate change, and responding to natural disasters.

The training should take approximately 15 minutes and will teach best practices learned from law enforcement agencies in areas impacted by weather-related disasters, such as tornadoes, hurricanes and floods.

Additionally, the CDP will provide course participants additional sources of information and encourage them to continue researching how climate and weather patterns can impact their organizations.
