CDP instructor receives achievement award

Dr. Dennis Terpin, an instructor at the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) since 2013, was recently presented a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA).

The award was presented to Terpin at CSHEMA’s Annual Conference in Boston last month, which was attended by more than 600 members and guests. The CSHEMA Honorary Life Award is granted to retired individuals who have contributed to environmental health and safety programs for at least 10 years as a member of CSHEMA. According to a release, Terpin received this honor “for 53 years of experience in Occupational Safety, Laboratory Safety, Health, Emergency Response, Rescue and Emergency Management.”

Terpin previously received the 2014 Illinois Emergency Management Agency-Emergency Management Achievement Award and earned Gold-Level status as an indirect instructor for the CDP every year from 2014 to 2019. The CDP recognizes indirect trainers who train a certain number of students or deliver a certain quantity of classes in a fiscal year. Gold status is awarded to those who trained 250 students or delivered 15 classes.

Terpin is a retired senior industrial hygienist, hospital safety officer and emergency manager. In addition to serving as an indirect and resident course instructor for the CDP, he sits on the board of directors of the West Maui Taxpayers Association, specializing in emergency management and occupational safety and health. He’s also active on the American Society for Testing and Materials F23.65 International Respiratory Protection Committee on protective clothing and respiratory protection.
