CDP, JSU renew education partnership
FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) and Jacksonville State University (JSU) recently renewed their decade-long partnership, signing an agreement to collaborate on research, internships, and academic credits through 2032.
Through the memorandum of understanding, JSU offers free college credit to CDP students for certain courses taken at the center, which can be applied towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the university’s emergency management program. In addition, JSU students are offered opportunities to conduct research using CDP facilities and training data, as well as participate in internships which meet their college and career goals.
The research provided by students helps the CDP gain insight into the training it provides.
“We are going to collaborate together to ensure that our students have maximum opportunity to participate with CDP activities,” said JSU Provost Dr. Christie Shelton.
“This is an important partnership, as it brings together the academic with the practitioner,” said CDP Superintendent Tony Russell. “You have to have both of those to shape the future of preparedness, response and recovery, and to really impact the national goal of a secure nation.”
To-date, nearly 600 students have taken advantage of the arrangement, including approximately 300 bachelor’s-, more than 260 master’s-, and two doctoral-level students.
