CDP non-resident training aids large, national events
The Center for Domestic Preparedness’ (CDP’s) non-resident training program began with an urgent need to assist in training first responders in Utah as the nation geared up to host the 2002 Winter Olympics.
With a little more than a year to train a sizable number of individuals, the solution was simple – take the training to them.
Since then, the CDP’s non-resident program has continued to deliver training at or near the location of requesting agencies to fill certain capability gaps, or as they prepare to support certain large events, such as the Super Bowl or national political conventions.
The CDP’s non-resident training team balances the fine line between budgetary limitations and training needs of agencies throughout the nation with an eye toward providing opportunities which will have the greatest impact.
In a typical year, between 20,000 and 30,000 responders participate in CDP non-resident training, most of those in public order policing courses.
