CDP prepares for first BERT class
The first delivery of the Center for Domestic Preparedness’ new Basic Emergency Response Training (BERT) Course is slated September 20-22.
An updated version of the center’s former Technical Emergency Response Training Course, BERT is geared at any responder who may be called upon to support mass casualty operations associated with a chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear incident.
The three-day resident course includes a mix of classroom instruction and practical exercises, and teaches attendees how to identify basic hazardous materials, survey and assess scenes with hazardous materials, triage and decontaminate casualties, and choose and operate a number of hazardous materials air monitoring and detection instruments.
The September class is currently the only BERT offering scheduled in 2021.
