CDP presents updated HMT course
This week, FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness presents its newly revised Hazardous Materials Technician (HMT) Course for the first time.
Updates to the resident course include information about liquid product transfer and overpacking drums – two skills not previously included in the curriculum.
With the changes, the course is consistent with the latest version of the National Fire Protection Association’s Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications, NFPA 1072. Bringing the course into alignment with NFPA 1072 provides responders a more detailed understanding of how to respond to various hazardous material incidents.
