CDP requalifying HERT-B course trainers
The Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) this week is working on requalifying more than 500 responders to deliver the center’s Healthcare Emergency Response Training – Basic Course.
The Healthcare Emergency Response Training – Requalification (HERT-R) is being offered in three separate Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) sessions, due to recent updates to HERT course material and the number of responders needing to be recertified. HERT-B is a condensed version of the CDP’s HERT course and taught by qualified responders to those in their organizations or communities.
HERT teaches healthcare professionals how to operate an emergency treatment area during a mass casualty incident and treat individuals who have been contaminated with hazardous materials. Responders learn to use the appropriate level of personal protective equipment and how to decontaminate both ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients.
Due to the large number of potential responders who require recertification, the CDP is working to create an online HERT-R option.
In the future, the CDP will also offer a HERT Train-the-Trainer Course to interested responders. Graduates of that can deliver the full HERT course in their communities, provided their organizations can support the course requirements.
