CDP storyboarding climate-related course
FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) is beginning development of a course about the impacts climate and weather can have on disaster response, especially in underserved communities.
The course will include material important to all emergency responders, including information about climate resilience and how to keep equity in mind during disaster preparedness.
It will also include information about Community Lifelines, which are fundamental services in a community that enable it to function smoothly. They are grouped into seven categories (safety and security; food, water and shelter; health and medical; energy, which includes power and fuel; communications; transportation; and hazardous materials) and serve as a frame of reference for elected officials, emergency managers and first responders to better understand the status of these services in a disaster.
The climate course is currently being storyboarded, a process which determines how the information in the course will be organized. Once completed, it may become a co-requisite course taught alongside current CDP curriculum.
