CDP trained more than 66,000 responders in 2023

FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) trained more than 66,000 responders in calendar year 2023.

The responders completed resident, non-resident and indirect courses and online (Virtual Instructor-Led Training and distance learning) offerings, including training which directly helped prepare them to safely and effectively respond to numerous hazardous material and mass casualty incidents which occurred.

Of note, responders from the Maricopa County, Arizona, area completed several CDP courses leading up to Super Bowl LVII, which helped ensure the safety of fans and players at that event. Courses included the center’s Field Force Operations, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents offerings.

Meanwhile, responders from Chicago, Illinois, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, also took several CDP courses as they began preparations for this year’s Democratic and Republican National Conventions in their respective cities.

In 2023, the CDP also hosted two themed training weeks – Tribal Nations Training Week and Instructor Development Week.

During Tribal Nations Training Week, more than 200 leaders, emergency managers and responders from more than 70 tribal nations attended one or more of more than two dozen resident courses designed to enhance the incident response capabilities of tribal communities and delivered by the CDP and its partners in the national domestic and rural domestic preparedness consortiums. Following the week of resident training, another 140 responders participated in two weeks of virtual training.

During Instructor Development Week, meanwhile, more than 150 responders from throughout the nation became qualified to deliver select CDP courses to those in their organizations and communities. The courses spanned a variety of disciplines, including the fire service, law enforcement, healthcare, and emergency management.
