CDP training supported World Cup cities

FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) supported the 11 FIFA World Cup 2026™ U.S. host cities through a variety of training, ensuring the safety of the audience and participants for each game, and the surrounding communities.

Responders from the host areas of Atlanta, Boston, Arlington/Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay, and Seattle logged 21,723 course completions from January 1, 2024, through April 30, 2026.

·        More than 4,300 participants in 278 Healthcare courses.

·        Nearly 10,100 participants in 186 HazMat courses.

·         6,647 participants in 180 Law Enforcement courses.

·        Additionally, 673 responders participated in 227 courses

These law enforcement officers, healthcare personnel and firefighters trained in person at the CDP campus in Anniston, Alabama, and on-site in their communities. Many also gained knowledge and skills virtually, through the CDP’s web-based offerings.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin praised the work of state and local law enforcement agencies, and our federal partners to deliver a safe and secure tournament while showcasing American exceptionalism.

The security effort required coordination between numerous DHS components, including: U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Secret Service, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Coast Guard, Science and Technology Directorate, the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, Office of Homeland Security Situational Awareness, Office of Health Security, and Federal Protective Service.

The CDP routinely trains responders across the nation as their cities and states prepare to host high-profile events, such as the Super Bowl, Olympics, Democratic and Republican National Conventions and presidential inaugurations.

Because these National Special Security Events draw large crowds and media attention, the Department of Homeland Security considered them potential targets for terrorism or other criminal activities.
