CDP unveils FY2021 Training Strategy

The Center for Domestic Preparedness has formally unveiled its training strategy for FY2021.

The strategy establishes target fill rates and completion goals for all resident, non-resident and distance learning courses the center plans to conduct between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021, while noting the center will remain flexible in order to “meet the emerging (training) needs” of communities, states and the nation.

The 17-page document also emphasizes how the center will expand on its partnerships with nursing schools, historically black colleges and universities, and other higher-level education institutions during the fiscal year, while continuing its support to the U.S. Coast Guard, the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Bombing Prevention, the National Disaster Medical System, and others who regularly conduct training for their members on the CDP campus.

Additionally, the strategy says the CDP will continue to focus on integrating new technology and equipment into both its existing courses and new courses it may create during the year, while also continuing to host specially-themed training weeks, such as those geared at responders from tribal communities and those geared at responders from coastal towns and states which are prone to hurricanes.

Overall, the center’s goal for number of course completions in FY2021 is 67,500 – which is about 10,000 more course completions than it has totaled in recent years. But, the document notes the higher goal is attributable to the center’s distant learning efforts, which it says are continuing to gain attention and will include the addition of at least two more online course offerings in the 12-month period.
