CDP updates public information course
The Center for Domestic Preparedness recently completed an update of its Managing Public Information for All Hazards Incidents (MPI) Course.
The update incorporates lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The health crisis confirmed a need for organizations to have strong public information and crisis communication plans in place, said the course lead, Candy Waylock.
“The recently revised MPI reflects the new reality for public information officers and their roles in ensuring the demands for information during crisis are effectively met,” she added.
The four-day course provides responders with practical skills in strategic communications, media relations, message development and dissemination, on-camera interviews, and the effective use of social and traditional media. It culminates with a day-long exercise where students apply their skills in a mock joint information center environment.
The initial offering of the updated MPI course is scheduled for December 5-10.
