CDP updating hazmat courses
FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness is currently updating two of its resident hazardous materials courses.
The Hazardous Materials Operations (HMO) Course is being brought up to date with information from the latest edition of the Emergency Response Guidebook.
The Hazardous Materials Technician (HMT) Course, meanwhile, is being completely revised.
The revision will include information about two additional skills – liquid product transfer and overpacking drums.
It will also be consistent with the latest version of the National Fire Protection Association’s Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications, NFPA 1072. Bringing the course into alignment with NFPA 1072 will provide responders a more detailed understanding of how to respond to a hazardous material incident.
The updated versions of both courses should be available next month.
