CDP wraps up 2023 Tribal Nations Training Week
FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) today wrapped up its 8th annual Tribal Nations Training Week, which was themed ‘Healing the Nations. Strong, Unified, Prepared.’
During the week, more than 200 leaders, emergency managers and responders from more than 70 tribal nations attended one or more of 29 different courses designed to enhance the incident response capabilities of tribal communities and delivered by the CDP and its partners in the national domestic and rural domestic preparedness consortiums.
The courses included Emergency Management Framework for Tribal Governments, Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment and Stakeholder Preparedness, Community Based Response to All-Hazards Threats in Tribal Communities, and Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents. Three of the healthcare courses culminated with an Integrated Capstone Event – a demanding practical exercise which prompts an interdisciplinary response by students to a mass casualty incident.
Students also participated in a listening session about FEMA tribal affairs and evening lectures regarding emergency communications and tools for water resource management.
Though the resident portion of the Tribal Nations Training Week has ended, the tribal-focused training will continue online March 20-30 with the delivery of eight Virtual Instructor-Led Training courses.
