COBRATF construction set to begin

Construction will begin next month on a new joint training and storage building at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP).

The 30- by 90-foot building will be constructed in the outdoor training area known as Fisherville (formerly Northville) at the CDP’s Chemical, Ordnance, Biological and Radiological (COBRA) Training Facility.

It will join six other buildings and a handful of fire trucks, buses and other props in the mock city which are used exclusively for training.

It will also add considerably to the more than 1 million square feet of building space already on the CDP campus.

The CDP’s COBRA Training Facility trains up to 2,500 civilian first responders a year to detect and safely operate in environments with chemical, biological and nuclear materials. It is the only location in the country where civilian responders train with hazardous biological materials and toxic chemical agents.
