Focus group reviewing CDP’s suite of radiological courses

The Center for Domestic Preparedness’ suite of radiological courses is getting a top-to-bottom examination this week by a team of environmental, emergency management and healthcare representatives from across the country.

The 10-person focus group, which also includes members of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, is reviewing the curriculum for each of the courses to insure that it is current.

“The CDP routinely reviews its more than 50 courses and makes changes as needed to insure the material is timely and relevant,” explained CDP Assistant Director for Curriculum Development and Evaluation Bernice Zaidel.

“We review not only all our radiological courses, but also all our healthcare, hazardous materials, law enforcement, and other courses,” she said.

The CDP currently has a suite of eight different radiological courses, from Radiological Emergency Response Operations – where participants are taught how to effectively respond to a radiological incident – to Advanced Radiological Incident Operations – where participants are taught how to manage a radiological incident.

The CDP trains up to 50,000 students annually, from emergency management officials, hazardous material specialists, law enforcement specialists and firefighters, to doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers.

CDP training is completely funded for state, local, tribal and territorial emergency responders to include roundtrip airfare, meals and lodging.
