In the Spotlight: Brandie Wempe

Brandie Wempe has more than 12 years of experience in instructional development and has been the director of the Center for Domestic Preparedness’ (CDP’s) Curriculum Development and Evaluation Department since September 2021.

Wempe, who has a bachelor’s in sociology and criminology from Colorado State University-Pueblo and a master’s in adult, occupational and continuing education and a doctorate in adult learning and leadership from Kansas State University, previously worked for Army University at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

She said she first saw FEMA’s response and recovery mission and became interested in joining the organization while volunteering to assist the residents of Joplin, Missouri, after a devastating tornado struck the town in 2011.

“You see the importance of what first responders do,” Wempe explained.

“So, to be part of an organization that contributes to their training and helps them navigate disasters safely, that is fulfilling,” she said.
