In the Spotlight: David Linthicum

Students can learn a lot from David Linthicum, who has been an instructor at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness for the past seven years.

In his more than three decades of service in law enforcement, Linthicum has worked some of the largest sporting events in the nation – from the National Hockey League’s All-Star Game and Stanley Cup Finals to the U.S. Opens for men’s and women’s golf. He has also been involved in the aftermath of a least five tornadoes and hurricanes.

Additionally, Linthicum has served his department in Raleigh, North Carolina, in a variety of roles throughout his career. Currently, he is the captain of its special operations division and commander of its bomb squad.

“Training is the single, most important thing first responders can do to prepare to address any threat, whatever it may be,” he said. “One hour spent training creates a lifetime of value.”
