In the Spotlight: Derick Reaves

Derick Reaves has been a paramedic at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) since 2001.

In that role, he supports student training and helps in the event of medical emergencies.

Reaves began his career as a volunteer firefighter in 1986. He was hired full time in 1989 and quickly earned certification as an emergency medical technician. He became a paramedic in 1994, working for area ambulance services until he joined the CDP.

Inspired by those he worked around each day, Reaves earned his bachelor’s degree in emergency management from Jacksonville State University with a minor in homeland security.

“I enjoy meeting the people from all across the nation and all walks of life who come here to train,” said Reaves.
