In the Spotlight: Dorothy Simmons
Dorothy Simmons began her career at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness in 2003 as a quality assurance evaluator, performing contract surveillance. In April of 2007, Simmons transitioned into her federal career as a management analyst in Quality Assurance.
She obtained Level I, II and III Contracting Officer Representative (COR) certifications and served as the alternate COR for the food service contract. She also monitored and reviewed three of the CDP’s major contracts (Security, Food Service, and Student Services).
She has served as the leader of CDP’s Document Control Implementation and Integration program since 2016. In that role, she reviews, revises and assigns document control numbers to CDP directives, manuals, procedures and forms, after leadership approval. Simmons also conducts data collection, analysis input and analyzes data to identify areas for improvement.
“Working at the CDP has been educational in all aspects,” she said. “From observing instructors as they ‘Train the Best for the Worst’ to my deployments in support of survivors following hurricanes Sandy, Maria, Harvey and Irma and the firsthand experiences I had here at the CDP Call Center as well as in New York, it was satisfying knowing I was on a mission to help others in their time of need, not only as CDP employee but as a missionary.”
