In the Spotlight: Frazier Sloan

Frazier Sloan uses the experience he gained from 23 years with Montgomery, Alabama, Fire and Rescue in the hazardous materials courses he teaches at the Center for Domestic Preparedness.

In addition to being a CDP instructor since 2004, Sloan has been a contract instructor at FEMA’s National Fire Academy and an adjunct instructor at Alabama’s state fire college and Texas A&M’s Engineering Extension Service.

“I believe trainers of emergency responders should set tomorrow’s standards for response today. We should pass on our knowledge and experiences to those who bravely and unselfishly serve our citizens,” said Sloan.

Sloan’s experiences extend far beyond the Montgomery Fire and Rescue unit.

From 2000-2003, he was a member of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s statewide anti-terrorism task force. In 2010, he deployed to Louisiana as a member of the response force for the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Throughout his career, Sloan has also been involved in the planning and execution of a host of large-scale exercises. These include training events for response agencies, hospitals, military bases and others.
