In the Spotlight: Fritz Monday

Fritz Monday has been a role player at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) since 2014 and has been assisting with creating and applying the mock injuries seen on role players, known as moulage, since 2018.

The CDP’s cast of role players, coupled with its moulage experts, add an extra layer of realism to the exercises responders participate in during training at the center. They enable the responders to have real people to interact with and help to simulate the chaotic environments which may occur during or following an incident or disaster.

Monday first learned about the job of being a role player through a vocational rehabilitation program. Moving into the moulage side of the exercises gave him a creative outlet he has enjoyed exploring and he even practices the craft at home, trying out tips learned from online tutorials to ensure his artistry is as professional as possible.

Monday said it’s important that he challenge the responders who come to the CDP for training.

“Even though we aren’t the ones who respond to a disaster, we take part in teaching the ones who do,” he said.
