In the Spotlight: Jackie Morgan
Jackie Morgan, who oversees day-to-day operations of the Center for Domestic Preparedness’ (CDP’s) blood lab, has more than 36 years of experience as a phlebotomist, including 21 with the center.
The blood lab supports training performed at the CDP’s Chemical, Ordnance, Biological, and Radiological Training Facility (COBRATF), the only place in the country civilian responders train with hazardous biological materials and toxic chemical agents. The lab administers and evaluates pre- and post-exercise blood samples of students who participate in exercises with those substances.
Morgan’s background includes a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from nearby Jacksonville State University, a hospital internship, and seven years work in the blood lab at Fort McClellan’s Noble Army Hospital, before the military installation closed.
“In the laboratory, you have to pay attention to detail and do things a certain way,” said Morgan. “I like that it is a very organized environment.”
