In the Spotlight: Joy Salazar
An instructor with FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness since 2019, Joy Salazar has nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience in a variety of areas, including patrol, investigations, and training.
She also has a bachelor’s degree in business administration, a Master Peace Officer certificate, and has been a certified law enforcement instructor since 1998.
During Salazar’s career, she has assisted with numerous high-profile events, including the NCAA Final Four Men’s Basketball Tournament and Superbowl LI, and several natural disasters, including Hurricane Harvey. During the Lone Star (Texas) College active shooter incident in 2013, she served as incident commander.
“Good training not only keeps first responders alive and safe, it also helps them successfully navigate the often difficult and litigious society we live in today,” said Salazar.
